Miroslaw Balka – “How it is” – Tate Modern London

Description: The work / installation / sculpture is a big metal container, erected on metal reels, 13m high, 10m wide and 30m long.

Experience / reception / reportage: on the way to the center on the inclined platform,  I am surrounded with darkness, going forward, my field of perception is being closed by”dark mass” which is a bit like some kind of gate or a stellar black hole (in the receipt gives the impression of one of the scenes of Kubrick’s Space Odyssey 2010).

I’m slowing down my pace … visibility is nil. I’m exempt because “blindness” is depriving one of the main senses used in the movement.I’m losing confidence with the lack of visuals; I resign because I expect something unexpected such as a collision. From the middle of “dark matter” I receive bass sound  of bended  metal coming from hard jumping co-recipients as they were checking the design strength and quality of execution (in my head a question crosses my mind : is this some kind of second stage of “acceptance” of this installation?) Still darkness. Visibility: zero.

“It” – as negative of a milk-dense fog.

Along the way i wipe my arm around a person … Who is it? What sex? I do not have the foggiest idea. Here is my cognitive templates appear to remain on the outside! It’s like working on the basics: a moment of oblivion of consuming the art, instead  trying to find myself in the situation …

Suddenly, unexpectedly: Wall.
I turn towards the exit, leaning against a wall covered with a rather pleasant to the touch material. I see a dark figure entering and leaving viewers. Thus, leaving appears to act much easier … “obstacles” are located … I go out, however, the experience remains in the middle of … me.
